Modern Machine Works was established in 1911 under the original name of Bismarck Foundry by Adolph Kuchera.  It started as a casting company and soon got into machining and selling automotive parts. In  the early 1980’s Modern Machine Works was asked to design and build all the necessary equipment and support structure to rebuild dragline drums on site.  This led us naturally into rebuilding and manufacturing multiple dragline and shovel parts. We are now a fourth generation owned company with customers throughout North America.
